Pumpkin and Spice

As a pastry-chef-in-training, I love to eat, entertain and create. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, and I love sharing new things I find, try and bake. This blog chronicles the adventures I have with food- at home,at school, on vacation and in my career. I’m especially excited to share my adventures this coming fall, as I will be starting a six-month externship as a baker at a luxury ski resort in Utah.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Posted by pumpkin in philosophyholidays

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday (today? I'm still up... but I guess it's technically no longer Thanksgiving...)

Since the ski season hasn't officially started, the resort was closed on Thanksgiving. Our busy day was the day before, making pies for orders. Sissy and I had been trying to find a restaurant in town that was doing a reasonably priced Thanksgiving dinner (Park City has a lot of pricy restaurants... but not many that are good for girls on a budget!) However, one of our co-workers took pity on us and invited us to Thanksgiving dinner. There were nine of us- Sissy, me, our co-worker, her hubby and two kids, and another couple and their daughter. We were a little afraid that it'd be weird and uncomfortable celebrating a family-centric holiday with strangers, but everyone was so friendly and warm, that it didn't take long before we felt like we belonged just as much as everyone else.

Sadly, I was a total space cadet and forgot my camera. Heck, I almost forgot the pie! I was almost to the bus stop, then remembered the pie was on the table in our room and ran back for it... So I guess I remembered the important part, right?

As much as I miss Kyle, I know I have a lot of things to be thankful for this year. I'm thankful to have a wonderful husband who didn't even bat an eye when I announced I wanted to embark on this adventure, and then didn't point out that it was my idea when I got all weepy about leaving him. I'm greatful to have a job that I love, and I'm thankful for this experience I'm having in a unique and differnent city. I'm thankful for my co-worker who let us tag along, and really brightened up the holiday for two girls that are both missing their husbands.

My co-worker's 13 year old son gave the blessing tonight- it was short, sweet and appropriate: "Dear God, We are thankful for this food and our family. And please let it snow. Amen."

Amen to that!

I'm glad that you had a happy Thanksgiving. We had dinner in Tamap yesterday and tomorrow (Saturday) we are doing it all again at Dad's house. And I am making a pie! From scratch! Well...almost from scratch. I'm not making the crust. But, I am making the filling...apple and pear. I found a recipie on-line and it sounded really good. I'm baking it today so it's ready for tomorrow. I hope it comes out good. But, aren't you proud of me?! smilies/grin.gif
