Pumpkin and Spice

As a pastry-chef-in-training, I love to eat, entertain and create. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, and I love sharing new things I find, try and bake. This blog chronicles the adventures I have with food- at home,at school, on vacation and in my career. I’m especially excited to share my adventures this coming fall, as I will be starting a six-month externship as a baker at a luxury ski resort in Utah.

So Sleepy...

Posted by pumpkin in pie

Whew! I'm tired! It was a busy day at work- it seems like I didn't do much, because I basically did the same thing all day... rolled out tart crust after tart crust after tart crust! I rolled out "plain" crust, cheese crusts and chocolate crusts. I did get a little break at one point when my crusts were baking, and I made ice cream. Since I just made empty crusts and ice cream, I didn't take pictures. Today we were mostly prepping for two banquets this weekend... And I see bunches of Thanksgiving pie orders in my future. Good thing I got lots of crust rolling practice today!

It's been cooling down a lot- at the beginning of the week, it was getting warm in the afternoon. Now, it's pretty cold all day. The next step is snow- everyone's a little on edge because it isn't yet cold enough for snow. Several of the resorts were planning on opening this week but couldn't because of the lack of snow. It's strange to be in a town where everyone waits with baited breath for that first snow storm- all of our jobs depend on it, really!

I was a little boring with food today, lots of repeats. I'll skip pictures of breakfast and dinner, because you've seen 'em before. Breakfast was Kashi hot cereal, a banana and coffee. Lunch, in the employee cafeteria was vegetarian mushroom stroganoff with egg noodles, perfectly cooked carrots, and an apple. Very yummy. (And probably totally loaded with calories!)

Mmm. Stroganoff.

Dinner was leftovers- my other turkey stuffed red pepper and broccoli, and a small cup of carrot soup. And, for dessert- pumpkin pie, of course! I had planned for Sissy to help me with the pie... but it turns out she doesn't really like pumpkin pie. I'm not sure how far I'll get into the pie before it gets icky.

Sorry for such a short post- I am really wiped out. I feel like I must be boring you all with my recent posts. What would interest you all? Do you want to keep hearing about what I'm eating? I promise to share pictures of what I'm making once there are finished products- right now, I've just been making parts of things.

One of my least favorite things to do is pie crusts. I like the whipping and the beating and the mixing of doughs and batters, it's so much fun. How weird that they are wishing for snow, most everywhere else dreads it. Your not boring me!!!smilies/grin.gif
